XLIVE Interview Series - Simon St-Germain - Klik

This week on the XLIVE Interview Series, we sat down with Simon St-Germain, Communication and Marketing Director at Klik.

Klik’s wearable solutions promote face-to-face interactions, so event-goers can network, share, save, and receive helpful information without spending valuable time in their phones.  We spoke to Simon about a number of topics from the products and services offered at Klik, how they will be integrating their technology into the 2019 XLIVE events, gamification, and what’s next for Klik.  Read the full interview below!

Thanks for taking the time to sit down with us today, Simon.  For those who don’t already know, can you give us a brief overview of Klik, the products and services you offer, and how you bring value to events and conferences?

Of course. Firstly, thank you for having me! Klik is an event engagement platform that works with wireless-connected wearables provided to event attendees. We’re best known for our innovative contact exchange feature. that works when two wearables are clicked next to each other to trigger an exchange of each person’s contact info. But there’s much more to it.

We offer the ‘basic utilities’ for event organizers; like registration, access control, and of course a mobile app. But since every attendee is wearing a klik device, we’re able to generate highly valuable data for event organizers. This is where we truly stand out to event organizers.

Because our system allows us to track attendees passively, we’re able to demonstrate real-life attendee behavior at the event. Plus, the platform helps event organizers to drastically increase engagement, help attendees make meaningful connections, and improve the learning experience of an event.

What types of live events does Klik work with most?  Are there types of events which are a better fit for Klik’s technology than others?

We focus mostly on B2B convention/conference settings, but we’re happy to work with our clients to adapt to their needs. We’ve done tradeshows, incentives events, all corners of the MICE industry!

How did you personally get your start in the live event industry?

Here, at klik a little bit more than 3 years ago when we created the brand and launched it. Before that, I worked in advertising and lived the digitalization of that industry – which applies very well to what the event industry is going through now, and how klik fits into all of it.

Klik will be bringing their technology to both the XLIVE Esports Summit, as well as the XLIVE Annual Conference in 2019.  Can you tell the readers how Klik will be helping XLIVE attendees connect and network at this year’s events?

We want both these events to become ‘marquee’ events for us. So we’re working closely with XLIVE to deploy the best of what klik can do. In terms of networking, attendees will experience our Smart Match feature which allows them to easily meet other attendees who share their interests.

These interests are based on tags chosen at registration, but also based on session attendance. Of course, on site they will be able to use the contact exchange feature – so everybody can just leave their business cards at the office! At the annual conference, we’ll also deploy our lead retrieval system, which is the most innovative system on the market.

Talk to us a little about gamification.  Can you give us a few examples of how Klik uses gamification, and any measurable impact you’ve seen gamification have on engagement?

Gamification is a great way to incentivize attendees to adopt certain behaviors and increase engagement. We’re able to create various ‘game rules’ and ways to collect points for a client. One of the most popular ways we do this is through our contact exchange. When attendees exchange contacts they’ll accumulate points, but they’ll get even more points if they exchange contacts with a certain type of attendee like; sponsors, exhibitors, or even klik employees.

The impact you see is really incredible! We’ve seen engagement scores do 3x and even 10x better compared to events where we didn’t set up any gamification. People get very competitive, very quickly.

We’re seeing more and more types of technologies be integrated into wearables, especially in the live event space.  What’s next for wearables? What new technology or innovation do you think will impact this market?

I think event organizers will start to understand that wearables are not ‘just’ for tracking their attendees. Attendees expect wearables to be useful. They also need a clear answer to “What’s in it for me?” and I think we make it obvious for attendees from the beginning.

That being said, I think the next innovation in the market is what we’ll do with the data those wearables generate. Data can be used by the event organizers to make decisions, or retarget attendees online, but imagine we could also use that data to truly create ‘AI’ events. At these events, attendees would never wonder where to go, what to do, who to meet, etc.   The good news is that XLIVE events would be where we deploy the latest for klik!
